Twin City Recreation Age Group Formats
Fall 2013 and Spring 2014
U4 to U6 Boys and Girls
*Teams will go to the field that they are listed on the schedule
*Teams will use half of the 30 yard x 20 yard field for the first 30 minutes
*Players will practice with their teams for 30 minutes (5:45-6:15)
*Coaches will use practice plans provided to have an active and fun practice
*At 6:15, the 2 teams on the 30 yard x 20 yard field will play a 3v3 game until 6:45
*One team will wear pinnies and the other team will wear their Twins t-shirt
*Coaches will have a supply of balls on the outside of the field and just let the kids play
*Whenever a ball goes out of bounds, a coach passes a new ball into play, so that play continues
*The other coach can help retrieve balls
*Switch roles every few minutes
*Substitute players every 4 to 5 minutes so that no players sit out for long periods at a time
*Attempt to make small coaching points every once in a while, but keep play going and exciting!
U7 Boys and Girls
*Teams will practice 1 night per week for 1 hour
*Teams will have an area between 40 to 50 yards long by 20 to 30 yards wide to practice
*Coaches are expected to use Fun practice plans to work with the kids
*Coaches should try to make small coaching points throughout the fun activities in practice
*This is the first age where “real” soccer games are played
*Teams will play 4v4 (no goalkeeper)
*A Size 3 Ball should be used
*A certified referee will be provided for games
*Games will be divided into 4 (10 minute) quarters
*The field dimension is 50 yards by 30 yards.
*Players should receive equal playing time, and players should have the opportunity to play different positions
*Attempt to make small coaching points every once in a while, but keep play going and exciting!
*Coaches should be encouraging, positive, and fully support the referee at all times
*Remember to always show good sportsmanship!

U8 Boys and Girls
*Teams will practice 1 night per week for 1 hour
*Teams will have an area between 40 to 50 yards long by 20 to 30 yards wide to practice

*This is the first age where “real” soccer games are played
*Teams will play 5v5 (including goalkeeper)
*A Size 3 Ball should be used
*A certified referee will be provided for games
*Games will be divided into 4 (12 minute) quarters
*The field dimension is 50 yards by 30 yards and includes a goalkeeper box measuring 10 yards wide by 8 yards tall
*Players should receive equal playing time, goalkeepers should be rotated, and players should have the opportunity to play different positions
*Attempt to make small coaching points every once in a while, but keep play going and exciting!
*Coaches should be encouraging, positive, and fully support the referee at all times
*Remember to always show good sportsmanship!

U9/10 Boys & Girls

*Teams will play 6v6 (including goalkeeper)
*A Size 4 Ball should be used
*A certified referee will be provided for games
*Games will be divided into 2 (25 minute) halves
*The field dimension is 60 yards by 40 yards and includes a goalkeeper box
*Players should receive equal playing time, goalkeepers should be rotated, and players should have the opportunity to play different positions
*Attempt to make small coaching points every once in a while, but keep play going and exciting!
*Coaches should be encouraging, positive, and fully support the referee at all times
*Remember to always show good sportsmanship!

U11/12 Boys & Girls

*Teams will play 8v8 (including goalkeeper)
*A Size 4 Ball should be used
*A certified referee, along with 2 assistant referees, will be provided for games
*Games will be divided into 2 (30 minute) halves
*The field dimension is approximately 70 yards by 40 yards and includes a goalkeeper box
*Players should receive equal playing time, goalkeepers should be rotated, and players should have the opportunity to play different positions
*Attempt to make small coaching points every once in a while, but keep play going and exciting!
*Coaches should be encouraging, positive, and fully support the referee at all times
*Remember to always show good sportsmanship!

*Teams will play 8v8 (including goalkeeper) or 6v6 (including goalkeeper) depending on numbers
*A Size 5 Ball should be used
*A certified referee, along with 2 assistant referees, will be provided for games
*Games will be divided into 2 (30 minute) halves
*The field dimension is approximately 70 yards by 40 yards and includes a goalkeeper box
*Players should receive equal playing time, goalkeepers should be rotated, and players should have the opportunity to play different positions
